Very few people in this world really understand how Google collects and interprets data. Analysts however, often state that Google’s data collection system is likely more expansive than the CIA or the FBI. Anyone with a free Statcounter account knows that it is very easy to determine repeat traffic by IP address. In addition, your activity can be identified by the operating system that you use, your screen resolution, your choice of browser and several other technical factors. Who knows what other information Google is collecting about our day to day Web surfing activity. Even though they might be legally prohibited from identifying us personally, there is a long set of terms and conditions that were agreed to when the Google toolbar was installed on our browsers. And how many computers do not have a browser with the Google toolbar installed? Although the pool cannot identify us personally, they can very likely come to an educated conclusion as to whether a certain pool of traffic is all coming from the same person.

 

Regardless of whether that same person is the owner of the Adsense account or not, the activity will be classified as click fraud, and your account will be terminated. Keep explaining all of this to everyone that you know. Fast forward years down the line and God forbid, you are in the midst of a bitter divorce. Your ex thanks it would be so clever to click on your ads over and over and over and over again. And there you will be. Screwed. Just like how you explained to all your friends at the party.
