Twitter is quickly becoming the next popular marketing tool on the World Wide Web. It is still in its infantile stages, however Twitter is building towards becoming the next big social media tool for online business and marketing. You can compare Twitter to other social media services such as Facebook and Myspace, but it is less of a community and more of an instant messaging tool. Twitter allows its users to post status updates, very similarly to the way Facebook allows you to post status updates that can be read by everyone who has subscribed to your Twitter channel. Twitter also allows you to comment on other individuals’ status updates, and reply to messages that they have sent you. To put things simply, Twitter is like instant messaging on steroids. It allows you to update everyone who is on your list about what you are doing, thinking, or feeling with only a few seconds of your time. There are a number of uses that come to mind when you consider what Twitter does. Following are a few of the more common uses for Twitter to make money:
- Announce Important Business Updates: Whether you own your own company or you are promoting someone else’s product, Twitter allows you to get the message out about a new product quickly. Your message is dispatched to everyone you know, or at least everyone that is following your Twitter channel. Individuals who own and operate Web sites often post their site updates on Twitter. - Build Business Connections: Twitter is a great place to build business connections with other businesses within your industry. - Get Paid For Ads: Sometimes, members of Twitter with a very large following allow companies and businesses to contact them and buy direct advertising Twitter updates. While it isn’t as great as a sales landing page, it is still worth something since you will be able to expose your product to thousands of people with the click of a button. The amount that you can receive for these services is usually dependant on how much of an expert in your field that you are, and how many followers you have on Twitter.
- Affiliate Marketing: If you don’t already know, affiliate marketing is the promotion of products with companies for a set commission. There are several different payment models that include payments for leads and sales. Try promoting products that are directly connected to your industry in some way. You may be surprised at how many people on your Twitter followers list are actually interested in the product you are promoting as a quality product that could be useful to individuals within your field or industry.
- Paid Review: Paid Reviews are very similar to direct linking, in the fact that someone will be paying you to promote them. However, under the paid review system you offer a short, one sentence thought about the product with a link to the product in your status update, and individuals will pay you for driving this traffic to their Web site. Some of the more prominent Twitter users utilize this method to monetize their popularity on Twitter.
As you can see, there are quite different ways to monetize yourself on Twitter. The important thing to remember is to be creative, and try new things for yourself. You will never know whether or not something works until you give it a try. Apply general marketing concepts to your Twitter account, and make sure that your Twitter followers are targeted toward a specific industry before blindly throwing products in their face. Also, remember to build trust with your audience before trying to monetize your status updates. In the end you will find Twitter to be a fascinating tool that can be used to augment your overall business strategy on the Web.

I don’t like Twitter but I use it to add all my posts and inform about them to my followers. It is great to attract traffic.
I didn’t think about all of this great tips so I am going to study them, perhaps I could put in practice some of them.
