Often times, Web publishers will allow the revenue potential of Adsense to guide the development of their Web project. What may have started out as a dream, may transform into a budding income producing machine. However within this transformation, it is possible to lose a little bit of the dream to allow room for the growth of the machine, and I am here to tell you today that you should not allow that to happen because it can be detrimental to your long term sustainability. There is one site that I can think of off the top of my head that started out as a casual blog to help soon-to-be brides plan their upcoming weddings, receptions and showers. The site was actually produced by an acquaintance, who served as an informal wedding planner for all her friends who seemed to all be getting married in the same three year span. Though she did not have an established practice, she had a knack for event planning, and she happened to love weddings. Her personal experiences in working with her friends made her think of several tips and ideas that could help other soon-to-be brides plan their weddings more efficiently.

She had built quite a bit of traffic on her Web site, because many of her blog posts had that tone of realism. Though many of the tips that she offered could likely be picked up in a book from Barnes & Noble’s, her Web site visitors wanted to hear specifically which she had to say. She was very savvy in the area of Web site monetization, and she was all over Google Adsense and affiliate programs, which together contributed to a handsome side income. Her blog posts were often posted on the other Web sites through RSS feeds, and the prospect of being a real wedding planner was just on the horizon. She had confided to me that her Adsense revenue alone was at least $500 a month.

Fast forward to five years later, and as they say, the honeymoon doesn’t last forever. Apparently her interests were redirected, and the frequency of her blog posts dramatically decreased. Her readers began losing interest, and the number of times that they visited her site also dramatically decreased. In an attempt to resurrect her blog, and her revenues, she attempted to pick up the pace on her posts, in hopes that the traffic could be rebuilt. Since her passion for wedding planning had somewhat dwindled, she turned to some great PLR sources for content. As you know, search engine rankings are not as favorable for PLR content as they are for original content, therefore perhaps it was a reason of people just not finding her site, but the traffic that came to view her PLR choices was negligible. Her revenues were as well.

This is just one small example of how following your passions and producing content based on what you genuinely and truly want to express to the blogosphere and beyond will result in revenues following naturally. Many people rack their brains to figure out what the perfect formula is for generating Adsense revenue. Is the secret posting leader ads across the top of every screen? Or is it embedding text ads after every few paragraphs of content? Or is it a strategically placed Google search box? People will read books and resource after resource to figure out the answers. The reality is that there are some general tips for good Adsense placement, however the real secret to generating real revenues is in following your passions.

As their loyalty grows, so will their openness to explore all the various offerings you have on your Web site, including all the resources that your Adsense ads lead to.
