Many changes are taking place in the PPC industry as of lately and you have to stay on top of these if you want to make money online with PPC. Just recently, a new CEO was appointed for Yahoo! and within days, the parallel program to Google Adsense was discontinued in Europe. No indication was given as to the reasoning, however recent indicators within the Google Adsense program may reveal some insight that could lead to speculation.
Although Web advertising in general reports revenues on the rise, experts and analysts forecast major changes in 2009. Specifically, the market rate for text links and banner ads is due for a reduction. After in-depth analysis by various advertising and marketing research firms, it has been deemed that the demographics of people actually clicking banner ads are not necessarily who advertisers are trying to attract. In fact, they say that half of all clicks are produced by what is referred to in the industry as “natural-born-clickers”. This demographic reflects approximately 6% of the population between the ages of 25 and 44 with incomes less than $40,000 a year.
The previous going rates for Adsense text and display advertisements were based on expectations of the demographics that advertising was attracting. With this new information that studies have revealed, publishers can expect changes on the horizon. But perhaps these changes are not something we should fret. After all, we are advertising in a fast paced technological age, so naturally we should be expecting changes to occur right when we are in that comfortable place when we have everything figured out. Or so we think …
Just look at all the developments in advertising as of recently. Surely you must have noticed Adsense ads on You Tube embedded in various videos. In addition Adsense is offering video units to be placed on your Web site so that your Web site visitors can view videos that you will receive CPM revenues from. Another development is an interactive ad called “feature-tisements.” You may have noticed them on some of the major news outlet sites where the ads expand when your mouse hovers over them to offer more details on the service being solicited.
It seems like no matter how you decide to move forward with your Web development, you can bank on one thing: change. Some may view the potential onset of changes pessimistically, however Google has taken care of publishers for many years. Change is not always bad, and it is very likely that the new face of Adsense will be favorable and perhaps more effective, and hopefully, more lucrative!
